The Client – There’s Light
There’s Light are lighting design consultants based in London, celebrating 10 years in business next year. They specialise in architectural lighting design, working primarily within architecture, but also create bespoke lighting pieces.
The Challenge
This was the first time There’s Light had designed a product, working in collaboration with Neoz. The limited edition cordless lamp was first designed for the Corner Bar at Tate Modern and then launched during the London Design Festival in September.
The product had already been manufactured, but a ‘ghost’ version was needed for an upcoming exhibition at Tate Modern. This replica would need to be an all white copy of the original design that visitors could handle safely and could remain on display throughout the event.
The Solution
The team at JC3DDesign recreated the light fixture using the details provided by There’s Light. They advised on the most suitable materials and finishes to achieve the desired look. The replica was identical in proportion and scale to the original light fixture. Ten were ordered in total, with one printed first to confirm every detail matched the client’s expectations before full production began.
The Outcome
Although the 3D design was a small part of a much larger display, the finished light fixture matched There’s Light’s vision perfectly. It was well received at the exhibition, visitors interacted with it and it went well with the display.
Testimonial
When we asked ‘Why should you work with JC3D?’ There’s Light said: ‘Next time we need 3D prototypes, we know where to go. The care and attention and wanting to make sure that he understood what we were after. Being a human in the process and not just dealing with an automated
service was really, really great’
