A laser scan gives you an accurate, scalable 3D CAD file of your product essential when:
3D scanning allows you to move seamlessly from a real object to a fully editable, accurate 3D CAD model.

“A big thanks to JC3D Design. I needed a quantity of bespoke 3D printed blocks to allow the installation of special blinds in a conservatory. Using my modelled prototype they 3D scanned and 3D printed then for me. Excellent service from start to finish”
Our 3D scanning services support a diverse range of industries, including;

Automotive
Creating detailed models for part design and quality control.
Aerospace
Ensuring precise measurements for high-performance components.
Healthcare
Developing custom prosthetics and medical devices with exact fit.
Manufacturing
Improving product development and streamlining production processes.
Heritage and Conservation
Digitally preserving and restoring historical artefacts.
Our team will review the part and assess the feasibility of recreating it using 3D scanning and 3D printing. We’ll consider factors such as part complexity, material requirements, strength, functionality, and intended use.
If needed, we may ask a few follow-up questions to fully understand how the part works and whether any design improvements could be made.
Depending on the size of the part, cost, and shipping practicality, you can either send the component to us or we can visit your site.
We’ll carry out a detailed physical assessment to prepare the part for 3D scanning and reverse engineering. Using professional, high-accuracy 3D scanning equipment we capture the part’s exact geometry.
At this stage, we can optimise or modify the design to suit the chosen 3D printing process, improve performance, or address any weaknesses in the original part. You’ll be kept involved throughout, with approvals provided before finalising the design.
Once you approve the CAD model, we manufacture the part using our inhouse 3D printing technology. Whether you need a single replacement part or multiple replicas, we’ll produce consistent, high-quality 3D printed components tailored to your requirements.
“Highly recommended! Thank you JC3D for your help with our one custom designed/printed for a promo shoot“
When you choose JC3DDesign, you’re not just getting a scan, you’re getting a complete, reliable service that takes you from physical part to usable digital model without the stress.

We know deadlines matter. Our streamlined process means you get your results quickly, without compromising quality.
Flexible File Formats
Whether you need STEP, STL, OBJ, or another format, we’ll deliver exactly what works for your project and software.
Non Contact & Non Destructive
Your part stays safe during scanning, even if it’s delicate, valuable, or a one-off piece.
Seamless Integration with 3D CAD Design & 3D Printing
We can take your scan straight into CAD for modifications, and into our in house 3D printers for prototypes or production runs.
Expert Problem Solving
If the scan reveals a design flaw, missing detail, or wear-and-tear issue, we can help you fix it before manufacturing.
UK Based & Easy to Work With
You will deal directly with our friendly, knowledgeable team, no overseas delays or miscommunication.
What is 3D scanning?
3D scanning is a process that captures the shape and dimensions of a physical object and converts it into a precise digital 3D model. Using our specialised scanners, we record millions of data points to create an accurate representation that can be used for design, inspection, manufacturing, or 3D printing.
What is 3D scanning used for?
3D scanning is commonly used for reverse engineering, product design, quality inspection, and creating digital models of physical parts. It is particularly useful when reproducing discontinued components, modifying existing designs, or preparing parts for manufacturing.
How accurate is 3D scanning?
Our industrial 3D scanners can capture extremely precise measurements, often with accuracy up to 0.1 mm or better depending on the object size.
How long does a 3D scan take?
Scanning time depends on the size and complexity of the object. Small components may take just a few minutes, while larger or more detailed items can take several hours to fully capture and process. Contact us or book a consultation to get an estimate for your project.
How much does it cost to 3D scan an item?
The cost of 3D scanning varies depending on the size of the object, the level of detail required, and whether the scan needs to be converted into a CAD model. Contact us or book a consultation to get a non-obligatory quote.
Can a 3D scan be converted into a CAD model?
Yes. A scanned object can be converted into a CAD-ready model through a process called reverse engineering. This allows our team to edit, modify, and reproduce parts accurately.
Can you 3D print from a 3D scan?
Yes. Once an object has been scanned and processed, we can prepare the digital model for 3D printing, allowing parts to be reproduced, scaled, or customised.
What objects can be 3D scanned?
At JC3DDesign, most physical objects can be scanned, from small components such as jewellery or mechanical parts to large items including vehicles, sculptures, and industrial equipment.
Do I need to bring my object to you for scanning?
Objects can often be scanned either at our studio or on-site, depending on the size of the item and the project requirements.
What is the difference between 3D scanning and reverse engineering?
3D scanning captures the geometry of a physical object and creates a digital mesh model. Reverse engineering takes this data and converts it into a structured CAD model that can be edited, manufactured, or used in engineering software. Find out more about our Reverse Engineering services here.
